从信息的内容而言，MES中复杂信息的类型就更多了，例如：

(1) 与工件相关的信息，例如工件随机到达、工件加工时间不确定、交货期变化、动态优先级和订单变化；
(2) 与机器相关的信息，例如机器损坏、负载有限、机器阻塞和死锁、生产能力冲突等；
(3) 与工序相关的信息，工序延误、质量问题和产量不稳定；
(4) 其他各种不确定信息，如操作人员不在场、原材料延期到达、原材料有缺陷、动态加工路线等。
在过程方面，由于难于掌握和控制信息的运动规律，信息的复杂伴随着系统运行的整个过程而产生。车间某些决策需要的信息、信息之间的可能依赖关系、信息的实际流向和传播方式等都可能是不确定的。例如，信息的传播可能是局限于局部的；也可能是分布的，同时对系统的其他部分产生影响；还可能是传播的，从一个局部以扩散的方式传播。
正是这些复杂信息的存在，使MES的产生成为一种必然。但同时，复杂信息是一把双刃剑，在给制造车间带来机会和挑战的同时，还可能会给其运行带来负面影响。
