在生产过程中，SMT生产制造部门大量应用丝印机、贴片机、回流炉等自动化设备，这些设备基本都采用工控机进行控制。由于设商厂商采用的数据接口和格式各不相同，设备信息也就无法集中共享，从而形成了很多“信息孤岛”，无法实现统一数据分析及处理。虽然大多数设备都具备采集生产过程数据的能力，但设备之间缺少网络连接，采集过程也只能通过人工查看显示屏或以磁盘拷贝的方式完成，这样的处理方式也就不能及时的反应整个生产线的作业状况，对于系统的管理效果而言无疑是极差的。

与此同时，人工采集、记录、传递生产数据不仅增加了工人的工作量，也无形之中将数据传输过程中 不可靠的因素放到了 重要的位置，效率自然十分不稳定，准确性更无法得到保障，更甚者还可能会影响生产的进行。SMT行业特性决定了如果生产过程中某一环节出现问题，就会造成整批在制品的报废，因此在生产过程中更需要实时、高效地监控关键生产参数，并快速的定位出错点，以正确的报警预警信息来提示相关人员注意和处理，并对部分重要参数自动进行响应。

企业现阶段不再满足于 简单、直接的看板信息，而是需要根据实时生产数据，对生产行为进行动态的监控。在此基础上，辅以相应的MES功能模块，对整个生产过程进行科学、系统的管理，以实现对于生产的全面管理以及与其它子系统间的互联互通。 终才能提高产品质量，降低成本消耗。
